There is nothing quite like a beautiful smile to make you look and feel good.

The best hygienist in London Deirdra McNamara  Tel: 0207 581 1000 / 0207 584 2537

Brilliant white, glamorous teeth has to be my Number 1 beauty tip but the first rule is to make sure you get yourself a great dentist.

I'm very lucky with my dentist, Alan Gold, but I had to wade through a number of others who tell you one thing one day and another the next before I found him. The best way is to get a personal recommendation from someone who themselves has fabulous teeth so you can actually see how good the dentist is.

Rule Number 2 is get yourself a good hygienist and visit them every three months to keep that smile looking great. Hygienists are easy to find in the US and, when I lived over there, I enjoyed my sessions, as they did a deep root creaning and numbed my mouth first so there was no discomfort.

In the UK - the land of the Nanny Tooth-brushers - it's more difficult to find a decent one. I went to several who were dreadful and in the end gave up and left my hygiene sessions for when I was back in the States visiting family.

One UK hygienist I went to flatly refused to numb my mouth before treating me and she also took offense when I asked her what sort of cleaning she would be giving me (there are various techniques). She then proceeded to lecture me on how to brush my teeth as through I were a five year old, and ticked me off for the damage that tea and coffee were doing.

I pointed out that I was a 50 year old man, not a toddler, and needed no instruction on how to brush my teeth. Furious at her patronising manner, I cut the session short although it still cost me £60. Since then, I've heard similar stories from other people, and have been told that hygienists in this country are trained to lecture on teeth cleaning, coffee staining and smoking. Like any professionals, though, they should be aware of that excellent saying - "judge your audience."
I'd all but given up over here and had already booked into my hygienist in Florida for my next visit when I heard aboutDeirdra McNamara, who works at Alan Gold's practice. The word was she was as good as hygienists across the Atlantic so, not really relishing spending my holiday in the dentist's chair, I booked an appointment.

I was a bit wary but, instead of grilling me about how many cups of coffee I drink a day, she listened to every word I said. She clearly understood there were various types of cleaning of the gums, teeth and mouth with a gel straight away, as she could see it was sensitive. When she needed to do the deep cleaning, she injected a local anesthetic so she could get the teeth really clean without any undue pain.

Deirdra also jet salt sprayed my teeth, bringing them up a bright white. My mouth felt as though it had had an MOT. Finally she polished my teeth with the residue of the salt and paste. The results were incredible - no need for bleach or anything else.

She also advised me on different toothbrushes, but without doing a hard sell on the ones stocked by the surgery or talking down to me. For the first time in the UK, I left a dental hygiene session feeling and looking good. I was so happy I booked for my next appointment immediately.

You don't have to be a patient at Alan's practice to see Deirdra, who works there on Mondays, Thursdays and Friday .

We all know that you are what you eat. But sometimes, as a single man,/woman  it's difficult to come home and start cooking after a day's work. Supermarkets still tend to cater for families, which means you have to buy more than you want or need and run the risk of wasting the food. I'm very much a fresh produce guy and I don't like freezing food because I feel some of the nutrition will be lost. As for ready meals, just look at the list of ingredients on the back - far too much sugar, salt and other additives. Even the labels billed as healthy are often anything but.

I have been really into my training since coming back from India. I've been at the gym most days and working on a high protein low/carb food regime. It's been hard sticking to it, and expensive - sometimes I look at my supermarket bill and think I might as well have eaten out.

Today I discovered something unusual at my gym - it has a ready meal section offering the BodyPlus prepared food range They deliver every day to the gym but I was a bit suspicious, wondering if it could be a good as it looked. And it certainly does look mouth-wateringly good. At £4.99, it's cheaper than a coffee and a sandwich in many places.

One of the gym  trainers practically pushed me out of the way to get at the beef rump with sesame noodles and sautéed kale! Not being a red meat eater I took the plunge and bough the lemon and garlic chicken with citrus quinoa.

There are four meal types in the range:
                                                     Body Plus +Muscle Gain
                                                     Body Plus: Weight Maintenance
                                                     Body Plus: Weight Loss
                                                     Body Plus Vegetarian

I have just had my first BodyPlus ready meal and it was absolutely delicious. I felt as though I had just dined at a good restaurant and now can't wait to try the rest of the range.

 Star waxer Antonia Galvo

I am luckily free of body hair apart from in the usual places, so I guess you could call me a pretty smooth fella (apologies for the pun!). But there is one irritation I do have - nose hair. I've tried just about everything on the market to get rid of them, but nothing really worked, often leaving some of the hairs behind or the roots showing.

Now, this may sound vain, worrying about a few nose hairs, but they really get to me. When I see a man with hair sticking out of his nose, they remind me of someone's grandad, and I have to resist the urge to offer them a nose trimmer.

When I was in Miami a few years back, I was at a salon with a friend who was getting his chest waxed, ready to hit South Beach show off his pecs. Sitting in on his treatment, I heard the lady ask if he wanted his nose done too. To my amazement, she placed menthol wax (a different kind of wax than is used on the legs and chest) into his nose, and a minute later pulled it out, leaving his nose free of hair.

My friend is used to waxing, being Latin and somewhat hirsute. The beautician, who came from Brazil, told me many men have their noses hair waxed there - they even do it in the barbers. So I jumped on the couch and let her place the wax in my nose. I have to say it's not for the faint hearted (although I'm also told I have a very low pain threshold). To me, it felt like a small punch to the nose. However, it was worth it, as it was the first time I was totally free of nose hairs.

Back in the good old UK, where a man having a manicure can still raise eyebrows, it was near impossible to get the nose treatment. I rang salon after salon - one even took offence at the very question and hung up on me! Then I realised that most Brazilian salons would offer the procedure and found a brilliant waxer/beautician right by Chelsea Football club - . Antonia Galvao and her sister Jane originate from Brazil are an institution in Fulham. As well as their waxing technique, they give excellent facial massages.

Trust me, if nose hairs are an issue, you could not be in safer hands.

It was the official website launch of the eagerly awaited My Secret Dressing Room in London last night and the fashionistas were out in force.

The glamorous affair was held at Knightsbridge's exclusive Buddha Bar and beautiful Samantha Tomlin, the actress and model, led the way in a stunning gold couture gown. Socialite and My Secret Dressing Room marketing director Hayley Gould greeted around 200 guests, including Sally Farmiloe Neville, Liz Brewer, actress Nicole Faraday, singer Kavana and Philip Salon.

So what exactly is My Secret Dressing Room? Well, we're all familiar with Airbnb, the holiday room and apartment rental site which has certainly transformed the way I travel and this is a similar concept.

This time, however, it's for the fashion world. So instead of having to buy an outfit for a wedding or Ascot or a gown for a special occasion, women can slash the cost by grouping together to share their wardrobes.

You simply look online at where you can and rent something fabulous for three days or a week. As long as you live in London or within travelling distance, the outfit can be with you within four days of ordering. It will be hand delivered straight to your door and also picked up.

The company started in 2013 in Milan, Italy, and the concept soon took off. Now it's arrived in London. You do need to be in or near London to rent your clothes, but people living elsewhere can register, pre order clothes and have them waiting at their hotel or wherever they are staying.

Who has not dreamed of owning a Louis Vuitton bag - even if it is only for one day? So the four day wait will be well worth it.

The website will give a choice of over 1,000 items – and there's an air of mystery, too, with many of the people who rent out their outfits choosing to remain anonymous. So, you never know, you might be wearing something owned by a star or even Royalty!

It's all great fun but I do hope they introduce a platinum service that will allow you to get items on the day – knowing all the fashionable ladies in my life, a four day wait would feel like a lifetime to them.

If you are renting, it's a great way to make money from quality items that might just be sitting in your wardrobe. The clothes and accessories are fully insured and will be picked up and collected.

My dear friend Sally Farmiloe already has many items on the website just waiting to be rented out – and with her topnotch socialising background, you're bound to feel like a million dollars in one of her outfits. There are sizes to fit everyone, so go have a look at
