Adrian Wilde

Some so-called celebrity hairdressers act like they are the star, and are doing you a favour by tending your hair, unless you're famous. Nothing gets my back up more than hairdressers like that. One recently tweeted "I am superstar colourist." No dear, you're not - you are just someone who has a big ego and needs a slap into reality. The client is paying - and the client is the superstar. Thankfully, not all hairdressers with a celebrity clientele are like this. If you find yourself in Manchester, there is no nicer and more down to earth person to tend your locks than my friend Adrian Wilde, who quietly does more stars than many who tweet on about their clients. I really recommend him if you're North of Watford.

The best hair brush on the market

There is one brush on the market that is a must in keeping your hair beautiful. Mason and Pearson. It is in most professional kits and many models carry a small one in their handbag, and larger one at home. Why is it different? Regular brushing plays an important part in the conditioning of the hair. The Mason and Pearson brush cleans the hair, stimulates the scalp and increases the blood flow to the roots. A natural conditioning oil, sebum, comes from the gland at the base of every hair. Brushing spreads it along the length of the hair, giving it strength and making it supple with a healthy sheen. It is great with extensions and, unlike wire, denim or vent brushes, does not pull the hair.

Silk pillow case a must have beauty aid

Keep your face healthy. Your face has more contact with your pillowcase than any other fabric. So, if you want to keep your skin looking refreshed, your choice of pillowcase is very important. You can learn more about how silk pillowcases help keep your face looking refreshed, healthy and glowing below.
Help your skin retain moisture. With one of the lowest absorption rates of any fabric on the market, sleeping on silk is one of the best options for helping your skin maintain its natural moisture. Save money on expensive moisturizing creams by retaining more moisture in your face to begin with, by sleeping on silk pillowcases. Reduce your chemical exposure.

We constantly come into contact with chemicals, but you can reduce that chemical exposure during your night’s sleep. Silk is produced from domesticated silk worms that are bred and raised in captivity. They have no predators to defend themselves against and are pampered throughout their life, helping to produce a fine silk fibre with little-to-no chemical exposure. In contrast, many fabrics on the marketplace, such as cotton, are produced from chemically intensive crops that require pesticides, herbicides and other chemical treatments before making it to your bedsheets. So when it comes to luxury bedding, this is one of those cases where less really is more.

It’s naturally hypoallergenic. Some of silk’s hypoallergenic properties include a natural resistance to dust mites, fungus and mold, in addition to many other allergens. Silk has amino acids in common with your skin and hair. Sleeping on a silk pillowcase will help your skin stay healthy and smooth while reducing facial wrinkles. If you’re only going to invest in one piece of silk bedding to start with, the silk pillowcase provides a lot of benefit for the cost. It’s a true luxury experience. Sometimes we treat ourselves to a massage, a relaxing day at the beach or a quiet evening in the bathtub. Whatever your escape, laying your head to rest at night on a silk pillowcase is the perfect way to end your day. There is no better feeling then the soft, smooth and luxurious feel of silk against your skin when you go to bed at night.

It is truly like having a massage every night. Reduce bed head and split ends. Are you tired of waking up in the morning and having hair that looks like you just stuck your finger in a socket? Sleeping on luxury silk pillowcases will help keep that bed head under control. And since silk has so many amino acids in common with your hair, it will help reduce damage, like spilt ends, as well. For your hair, it truly does pay to sleep on a silk pillowcase.

Doctor Duna's unique approach to facial acupuncture

This treatment is huge in the US, with people like Kim Kardashain and Demi Moore taking to the relaxing and youth-giving ancient treatment. So how is Doctor Duna's approach to facial acupuncture different from others who offer the Acupuncture Face Lift? Doctor Duna has developed a unique approach to cosmetic acupuncture, combining the usual facial acupuncture, which is based on inserting needles on the acupoints and on the lines and wrinkles on the face, with Mei Zen acupuncture. This technique is done by inserting three needles on the acupuints on the face and on the lines and wrinkles, and the third technique is by inserting long needles to tune the facial muscle, rather like the threading needling. She found by combining the three techniques results can be achieved faster and last longer. The results have to be seen to be believed. Steven Smith

Steven's Hair and Beauty Blog : The Creme de le Creme of face creams that won't rob the bank

Steven's Hair and Beauty Blog: The Creme de le Creme of face creams that won't rob...: Designed for babies' bottoms to ward off infection, sores and to keep skin smooth, the wondercream has to be one of the best anti-ageing moisturisers I have ever tried

The Creme de le Creme of face creams that won't rob your bank

Designed for babies' bottoms to ward off infection, sores and to keep skin smooth, the wondercream has to be one of the best anti-ageing moisturisers I have ever tried. At just £2.54 a pot, it is a must have in your beauty cabinet. Baby Bottom Butter by Waitrose is my Number One skin care product. I apply it in the evening before bed and I wake up with my skin looking fresh and feeling moist. It can be used during the day, but use only a small amount as it can make you skin look waxy, particularly if you have Botox when it can make you look like your face is a mask. But apply liberally before bed. You won't believe how good Baby Bottom Butter is. It flies off the shelves so when you find it in stock, buy several pots at a time to ensure your supply.

Hair Loss and strengthening hair supplements

If you are suffering from hair-loss, or just want to strengthen your hair or, in men, lengthen its life span, the first vitamin supplement I recommend to clients is Indole-3 Carbinol. Naturally found in vegetables such as broccoli, brussel sprouts, Bok Choy, cabbage and cauliflower. This supplement not only helps boost cells and bone health, it also helps prevent hair loss, and helps your cholesterol. However, it is always best to contact your doctor if you suffer a sudden unexplained hair loss. A visit to a fully trained trychologist such as Philip Kingsley may also be a good idea.

My Autobiography: "It shouldn't happen to a hairdresser"

It Shouldn't Happen to a Hairdresser follows the life of Steven Smith, who rose to fame in the late nineties with his own column in the Sun newspaper and regular appearances on television, notably GMTV, where he transformed Lorraine Kelly into Elizabeth Taylor. The often-hilarious autobiography is also tinged with sadness. It charts the lives of three inseparable young friends, known as Brighton's bright young things, as no party was complete without them: award-winning actress Denise Welch, celebrity interviewer and Daily Mail journalist, Lester Middlehurst, and author Steven Smith, following them through three decades of friendship. Steven lets you in on the secrets of hairdressing, with candid tales of the stars he has worked on. He takes you from his misery as a teenage boy in Surbiton, where a male pop star seduced him at the age of 16, to his blissful life in Brighton, where he first met Denise and Lester, then over to America, where he worked in Beverly Hills. He reveals how to survive as a celebrity hairdresser and, and if you want a glimpse of the real Denise Welch, there's no one who knows her better.

London has a new beauty craze - the Acupuncture face lift

The best kept secret in Hollywood the Acupuncture face lift - and now it's arrived in the UK. Chinese medicine and master of Acupuncture Dr Duna Alrudayni is seeing clients in her Harley Street practice for the anti-ageing boost. The treatment is not for those who want major work, but for those who want to stay away from the knife for a while and still look good, the results are amazing. Dr Duna suggests ten sessions to get the best results, but I have to say that after just one session everyone commented on my skin. Dr Duna recommends combining her Acupuncture with a session of Botox or filler. The acupuncture lifts the skin and promotes collagen, which you would not get from Botox or most fillers. I'll be bringing you an exclusive interview with Dr Duna soon. And you can follow her on Facebook:
Dr Duna is now doing acupuncture in Caterham :-

Hello from Steven

Hi and welcome to my Hair and Beauty Blog. Please note that the tips and recommendations, including those in my upcoming beauty interviews, may not work on everyone or may have different results for some. If in doubt, it's always a good idea to check with your doctor re allergies. I'll bring you affordable and unique beauty ideas plus interviews with celebrities and beauty experts.

The secret power of Baking Soda

A Hot beauty tip. Mix two teaspoons of baking soda with your favourite shampoo, apply to wet hair, then rub in well and leave for a minute. Rinse and condition then style. This will add body and shine and give your hair new life. Repeat every two weeks. It's also better than most deodorants - just apply a teaspoon under each arm. But, be careful not to use baking powder as it's not the same as baking soda....

Oil Pulling

"Oil Pulling" Take one tablespoon of coconut oil and leave in your mouth for 15 - 20 minutes. This will pull bad bacteria from the mouth/body and sinus, as well as helping your skin looking brilliant and your teeth white. Spit out what is left in the mouth and try a glass of coconut juice. Let Dr Duna know how it works for you.
